The Theatre of Life
My final major project is entitled “The theatre of life”, a photographic investigation of three different internal spaces found on the 131 London bus route. The route begins in Kingston-upon-Thames and terminates in Tooting Broadway, traversing three London boroughs: Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth.
The three locations I photographed are the Murugan Hindu Temple and Community Centre in New Malden, The New Wimbledon Theatre in Wimbledon and the Al Muzzammil Mosque in Tooting Broadway. When on location, I was able to gather information about these spaces and about the communities they belong to. The three locations represent constructed environments built by humans with the scope to preserve community and culture. These internal spaces allow a community to grow and create a performance of identity. In conclusion, the area’s diversity of cultures allowed me to explore and reflect upon how society negotiates identity and space.
