How has the genre makeover television shows changed in the past decade; class, consumption, emotive engagement?
The aim of this research was to see how the genre makeover television shows have developed and changed through the past decade, even though, they have all highlighted the themes of class, consumption and emotive engagements. The methodology used to research this was qualitative and theoretical, there were three case studies chosen from ‘What Not Wear’ to ’10 Years Younger’ and ‘Snog Marry Avoid’. All three case studies show the class division between contestant and presenter. They also emphasise the development of brutality as the genre progresses through the decade. The readings that were researched also stress the emphasis on consumption and class divisions, showing that this is are issues that have been expressed through the genre.
