Grime music is a modern representation of the British youth culture that originated from East London. It began as a subculture, recognised as a negative and violent category of music. However, through the intervention of new media the stereotype has altered and artists in relation to the genre are finding fame and fortune in the popular UK music industry. This media research project will aim to analyse the identity of the music genre grime and its journey from underground to mainstream music. Furthermore, it will examine what factors have contributed to its growing success in the music industry as well as identifying the issues it faces in today’s society.
